Forget about talent scouts and casting agents, social media is the newest and one of the most effective ways to gain popularity. Local gag guy Harvinth Skin didn’t start with the intention to end up being one of Malaysia’s biggest Internet comedy sensations. On the contrary, his point of departure was in fact, music, a remix of Snoop Dogg’s hit Drop It Like It’s Hot which was uploaded onto Youtube and shot him straight up to the stars. We’re glad that he’s not in the music industry anymore and is making hilarious videos for us instead because his sense of humor is certainly something you don’t want to miss out on.
Pun(de) Master
Malaysian culture is very… the word I would use is unique. It’s certainly like none other and Harvinth uses that to his advantage. The self proclaimed punde (Tamil for a certain female anatomy that may have links to cats) never fails to tickle our funny bones with his reaction videos to issues only a Malaysian could relate to. The banning of an iconic Disney remake due to a stout guy singing and dancing in an olden bar? Check. King Coco who’s 17% Serani, 45% Chinese and 100% a joke? Check. Whatever outrageous that’s going down in the land of durians and good food, you know that Harvinth has a video that will have us in stitches.
Filtration is not one of Harvinth’s fortes, and to our favor as well. The pun(de) master and his friends even have their own Youtube talk show, Meeting with Machas, where they banter about issues that people might find taboo. (Can you say one night stands?) Meeting with Machas feels more like a mamak catch up session with your friends, and we love it because it’s just so relatable. Harvinth Skin is living proof that we really shouldn’t take ourselves too seriously, and you bet we’re gonna see more of him around.
